Key Nutrients for a Long Life

I think it’s safe to say that most of us don’t want a visit from the grim reaper anytime soon.

In fact, I suspect what the majority of people would say if asked what’s most important to them is good health and a long life!

Well, that’s certainly what our bodies were designed to achieve. Our Creator did not intend for you to be diseased, medicated and overweight, and pass at an early age.

Unfortunately, many factors along the way can undermine your body’s innate ability to maintain a good state of health and instead lead to sickness and death.

But the good news is when you support your body’s efforts to do what it was designed to do, you dramatically improve your chances of living ALL of your days free of pain and disease well into your golden years!

And one of the most important things you can do is…

Get enough “longevity nutrients”

While ALL nutrients play a significant role in your body, research has shown that there are actually two distinct kinds of nutrients—survival nutrients and longevity nutrients.

Survival nutrients, as their name implies, support your body’s basic processes of survival and reproduction.

Longevity nutrients, on the other hand, are the nutrients which are aimed at encouraging the body’s efforts to remain healthy and free of disease and live for an extended period of time!

The top 5

Although studies have identified 30+ nutrients that help sustain longevity, currently the five most important ones are: probiotics, Vitamin D, Omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins and resveratrol.

These nutrients play many essential roles in the body, including repairing DNA, maintaining cardiovascular health, supporting your immune system and preventing cellular damage due to oxidative stress.

In addition to these nutrients, research has also identified other helpful compounds and phytonutrients that although not currently considered as "vitamins," they fit in with the concept of "longevity nutrients.”

These include lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene.

Is your body getting enough?

Now the most logical question is: Are you getting enough of these longevity nutrients?

Well, chances are good that you may be lacking for a variety of reasons.

First of all, deficiencies in both Vitamin D and Omega-3 fats are rampant in our society.

Many of us are lacking Vitamin D due to limited time in the sun (especially this time of year in the northern hemisphere) and sunscreen use.

And our diets don’t provide the Omega-3 essential fatty acids that they used to! The animals raised for our consumption used to be pasture fed, which provided a rich source of Omega-3 fats, and we would in turn get those fats when we ate the meat, milk and eggs from the animals.

Now these animals are fed a grain-based diet (many times GMO grains to boot!) which not only DON’T provide Omega-3 fats, but also instead load our bodies with inflammatory Omega-6 fats!

Also working against us is the fact that our food is simply not as nutritious as it used to be due to bioengineering of crops and poor soil quality.

Plus, sound digestion is critical to the absorption of nutrients, so if yours is not going along so well and you’re among the 7 out of 10 people who have digestive issues, that is certainly impacting your nutrient levels.

Cover your bases!

To ensure that your body has what it needs not just for today but for the “long haul,” supplementation is the best way to ensure you have all bases covered!

Our very own outstanding Super Core multi-vitamin and mineral formula provides health-supporting doses of Vitamin D, B vitamins and resveratrol.

Plus, Super Core also includes the helpful compounds lutein, zeaxanthin and lycopene too!

And when it comes to Omega-3 essential fatty acids, VitalMega-3 fish oil formula is the way to go.

Every daily 2-capsule dose provides a soothing 1,200 mg of pure, molecularly distilled, inflammation-fighting Omega-3 EFAs, including the crucial EPA and DHA that your brain and nervous system must have.

Last but not least, our tried-and-true Super Shield Multi-Strain Probiotic Formula has been supporting healthier guts and more regular BMs since 2009!

Whoa, Nelly!

Now, just because you can easily supplement and load up your body with longevity nutrients, that is not a green light to throw smart, health-supporting habits to the wind!

First of all, no supplement in the WORLD can undo the harmful effects of a poor diet. Having a nutrient-poor diet of processed food, fast food and refined carbs and sugars does irreparable damage to your body’s cells, tissues and organs.

To the point where it’s not “if” but merely “when” will you get sick.

Do your precious body a favor. Feed it what it needs to survive and thrive—fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, poultry and eggs, wild-caught fish, healthy fats like real butter, olive oil and coconut oil, and nuts and seeds.

Also, work in some form of regular exercise. Our bodies were designed to move, and the less yours does so, the more likely it is that you will gain weight and get sick.

You don’t have to get fancy—even brisk walking is helpful, and just about anyone can do that.

Try to keep stress low. Stress causes harmful changes to the lining of your gut, where 80 percent of your immune system resides. Your immune system not only protects you against infections and viruses, but also cancer! Keep in mind that regular exercise is a highly effective stress reducer.

Lastly, make sure you’re getting enough sleep. The average person needs between 7-9 hours of sleep each night, so if you’re getting less than that, time to hit the hay earlier.

Now you’re on a REAL path to a long, healthy, disease-free life!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia
