As I was sitting at a red light at a busy intersection yesterday, I saw a car traveling at an unsafe speed cut someone off, then it made a quick right turn on a dime.

Into the McDonald’s drive-thru entrance.

Too bad for him that the line was pretty long, so his quick pursuit of a Big Mac was about to come to a screeching halt.

I don’t care where you live or what time of day it is—there is ALWAYS a sea of cars in the drive-thru lines of fast food restaurants including McDonalds, Wendy’s, and Burger King.  And here in Florida, Chick-fil-A blows them all away—they even need 2 lanes of drive-thru service!

It confounds me when I see this, especially because processed and fast foods are arguably the most widespread and significant cause of early death in our existence!    

But they don’t kill you right away!  Instead it starts with you becoming….

Overfed and undernourished

One of the biggest atrocities of fast foods (and other processed/junk foods) is the fact that they contain very few usable nutrients and as such, don’t properly nourish you.

This creates the phenomenon of being overfed and undernourished. 

It goes like this:

The human body’s innate hunger signals are triggered by a physical need for nutrients.  Your body is very smart and it knows when it needs nutrients to create energy, make all your systems work like they should, and, well, keep you alive.

But since fast foods don’t properly nourish you, after eating them your body eventually realizes it didn’t get the nutrients it needed, so it makes you hungry again!

And if you turn around and eat more fast/junk foods, this creates a vicious cycle where you keep eating more and more and more, but your body is never satisfied.

Overfed and undernourished. 

Oh, and packing on the pounds while you’re at it.

Plus fast foods usually contain one or more of what are called the “bliss-inducing” ingredients—sugar, salt and fat—and they are downright addictive.

Particularly sugar—it’s been shown to be more addictive than cocaine!

A fast track to an early grave

Here are the various ways that fast/junk food leads you by the hand to an early grave.

First of all, the refined carbohydrates (including sugar, high fructose corn syrup and grains) in these foods trigger inflammation and are a leading contributing factor in heart disease and cancer (our top 2 killers), insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes, poor immune function, leaky gut, and Alzheimer’s. 

Plus as I mentioned above, fast foods lead to obesity which exponentially increases your risk of disease and is a major COVID co-morbid factor.
