Are these really just “a bunch of crap”?

*Important general office-hours announcement at the end - Please read through*

I once had a client who told me that when she mentioned to her doctor that she was taking a multi-vitamin, he basically scolded her and said she “doesn’t need that crap.”

Interesting perspective.

Not only are vitamins NOT a bunch of crap, but our need for non-food sources of nutrients has continued to expand.

At one time (several decades ago) people who had a “balanced diet” didn’t have much of a need for a multi-vitamin, since they would usually get what their bodies needed from their foods.

Multi-vitamins were aimed at people whose diets were less-than-stellar, picky eaters, or perhaps people who were not able to fully absorb or use nutrients from their meals.

Unfortunately, that has all changed.

Now we are looking at a variety of reasons and factors that prevent the average person from completely and consistently getting all the nutrients their bodies need from the foods they eat.

Here are four of the major ones:

1) Changes in what we call “food”

Over the last 100 years, we have ventured farther and farther away from what Nature provides us with for nourishment.

I’m referring to highly processed foods.

What originally started out about a century ago as a method to transport food to remote areas without spoilage (with items such as canned vegetables) has exploded into a seemingly endless variety of “food-stuffs” that not only don’t nourish you, but actually rob your body of nutrients as it fights the onslaught of sugar and chemicals that this garbage contains.

Plus, the artificial ingredients and chemicals in these foods are seen as toxic by your body, so they stress your organs of detox (your liver and kidneys) to filter them out.

Processed foods are extremely hard for your body to break down, causing you to use up tremendous amounts of digestive enzymes, and pave the way for poor digestion—which hampers your absorption of nutrients.

And please don’t bother to point out the fact that some of this trash has “added vitamins and minerals”—breakfast cereals are notorious for this. The paltry addition of some nutrients is typically nowhere near what your body needs, and you’ll probably be so toxic that they won’t do you any good anyway!

2) Changes in how we grow and raise our food

Due to bioengineering of crops, genetic modifications and depletion of soil minerals because of mass-farming, our food today is not as nutritious as it once was.

The current version of many crops contains lower levels of calcium, phosphorus, iron, riboflavin (vitamin B2), and vitamin C than they did in 1950.

The magnesium content of vegetables and wheat has declined by up to 25 percent.

Trace minerals in vegetable crops, including manganese, zinc, copper, and nickel, have decreased over the last several decades, while heavy metals like aluminum, lead, and cadmium have increased.

And it’s not just crops that are affected.

The animals we raise for our consumption are no longer allowed to graze in pastures as they once did. Instead, they are fed a grain-based diet (many times GMO grains!) which has severely decreased the anti-inflammatory Omega-3 fats that we used to get from their meat and eggs.

At the same time, the inflammation-stirring Omega-6 fatty acids in the products from these animals (due to their grain-based diets) have increased dramatically.

So, is it any wonder that we are seeing never-ending cases of inflammatory diseases like heart disease, cancer and arthritis?

3) Medications

Here is the US, we comprise only 5 percent of the world’s population, yet we consume 75 percent of the world’s prescription drugs.

That’s nothing to brag about.

And many of these drugs destroy your digestion, which in turn impairs your ability to absorb nutrients.

Types of medications that ruin digestion include: antacids, antibiotics, antispasmodics, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, hypertension drugs, antipsychotics, cholesterol drugs (statins), diuretics, opiates, and acetaminophen.

I am sure you recognize that these are among some of the most prescribed drugs, so it is no surprise that many of us have serious nutrient deficiencies.

4) Stress

Digestion is a parasympathetic process, meaning you must be in a relaxed state for it to be carried out properly.

So, if you eat when you are stressed, rushing, or upset, your body simply cannot accomplish digestion like it should, and that means poor nutrient absorption.

Heaven knows there is no shortage of stress in our current society.

The bottom line

The bottom line here is that supplementing with a complete multi-vitamin and mineral formula is the only 100 percent reliable way to ensure your body consistently has what it needs!

And our Super Core multi-vitamin and mineral formula is your ticket to solid nutrition.

I hand selected all the nutrients in Super Core to provide an effective, health-supporting variety of essential vitamins and minerals.

Plus, Super Core’s effective blend goes WAY beyond most other multis and also includes natural sources of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories!

Antioxidants are your body’s “protective army” against the dangerous effects of free radicals.

Free radicals have been associated with premature aging, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease, Type 2 diabetes, cataracts, and arthritis, among other things.

Antioxidants help control free radicals and combat their dangerous effects…but they can only carry out this important job if there are enough of them!

Super Core contains nine different antioxidants to help counteract free radicals in your body!

Anti-inflammatories are also becoming increasingly important for the average person.

Many of us are in states of chronic inflammation due to things like consumption of refined carbohydrates, smoking, medication use, gut microbiome imbalances and stress.

Super Core’s unique formula includes the soothing natural anti-inflammatories turmeric, Indian frankincense extract and ginger—herbs that have been recognized for centuries for their inflammation-fighting properties.

Give your body what it needs!

Nutrition is the #1 key to a healthy, disease-free existence.

So, start first with a diet of wholesome real foods! (Check out my Great Taste No Pain health system if you need some suggestions in this area.)

Then cover whatever areas in which you may be occasionally or consistently lacking with Super Core.

And pave the way for better health and feeling great into your golden years!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia

  • I read an article like that and quit taking vitamins. Within a week I had caught a cold and I never get colds. I immediately started taking them again and never get colds since.
