What modern medicine is really about (Hint: It’s not health)

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “medicine” as:

The science and art dealing with the maintenance of health and the prevention, alleviation, or cure of disease.

I think they need to revisit this definition because I don’t see a lot of “health maintenance,” “prevention,” or “cure of disease” going on.

What I do see is a system that is entirely captured and controlled by pharma to the extent that most times, the best you can hope for when you go to a doctor is getting some type of medication to “alleviate” (i.e.: cover up or suppress) your symptoms.

Actual “cures” are very rare, and of course, most doctors couldn’t begin to tell you how to effectively prevent disease. Medical schools don’t teach that.

How it all began

Medicine wasn’t always this way.

In fact, our current medical system was incepted by Standard Oil magnate John D. Rockefeller just a little over 100 years ago as a way to expand his revenues by creating pharmaceutical drugs out of petroleum by-products.

At that time, medicine was primarily focused on helping the body to heal and restore its normal functioning using plants, herbs, natural homeopathic remedies and nutrition.

Rockefeller knew he had his work cut out for him to create (and dominate) his market. So in 1910 he formed the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research and after appointing Dr. Simon Flexner to head the institute, his brother Abraham Flexner was commissioned to write a report on the US medical education system.

Make no mistake, the (real) goal here was not to improve medical education or anyone’s health, but to grow profits for Standard Oil.

The now-famous Flexner Report downright damned all use of natural remedies and techniques as pure quackery and presented oil-derived pharmaceuticals as the ONLY reputable form of treatment.

Never mind that these oil by-products didn’t actually “cure” a thing—all they did was manage/mask symptoms and keep people dependent on the drugs to create false health.

Talk about the perfect revenue stream.

Following the release of this defamatory report, half of all US medical schools closed, several physicians were forced/bullied out of business, and our modern-day system of a “pill for every ill” was born.

Where are we now?

So where are we now, 114 years after the Flexner Report?

We are now at a point in our existence where we are the sickest we have ever been in our history, that’s where!

Three out of four of us are overweight or obese, seven out of ten of us take at least one prescription medication each day, 75 percent of us have at least one chronic condition (as do over half of our children!), and for the first time ever, the life expectancy of our kids is predicted to be lower than their parents.

Oh and by the way, the Rockefeller family still owns about 50 percent of all drug companies, and they thank you very much for your continued patronage.

Time to go back to Nature!

If this isn’t a wake-up call for us to get back to Nature, I don’t know what is.

And an excellent example of a gem provided by Nature that can help safely and naturally enhance health in numerous ways is the spice turmeric!

The health benefits of turmeric are seemingly endless and include the following:

1- Enhances skin health

Turmeric is a highly effective anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. As such, studies are suggesting that it can help prevent cell damage, curb acne breakouts, support healthy collagen (thereby counteracting aging of your skin) and enhance wound healing.

In addition, turmeric has been shown to help treat other skin issues including psoriasis!

2- Natural pain reliever

Studies have shown that turmeric may be a natural painkiller for:

  • Wound healing and burn pain
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Orofacial pain (commonly related to dental issues)
  • Sciatic nerve pain
  • Arthritis/joint pain

3- Helps reduce depression

A review of six studies published in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association found that turmeric was effective at reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety within just four to eight weeks!

And one study found that at the six-week mark it was found to be equally effective as Prozac—without all the dangerous side effects!

Although this is impressive, it’s no mystery. Studies are showing that inflammation and depression are closely linked. Since turmeric is an effective anti-inflammatory, it can help with depression too!

4- Weight loss

Turmeric has been shown in studies to help boost fat-burning and reduce the growth of fat cells!

5- Fights autoimmune inflammation

Turmeric can help relieve inflammation by blocking the activity of several enzymes involved in the immune system’s inflammatory process.

This is especially important to people with autoimmune conditions such as Crohn’s, colitis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and MS.

6- Blood sugar control

Research shows that turmeric can help maintain proper blood sugar levels by increasing insulin secretion by the pancreas and supporting the absorption of glucose out of the bloodstream into the cells.

One study found turmeric to be comparable to the diabetes drug metformin in terms of lowering blood sugar!

It has also been shown to help reduce diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (affecting the feet, legs, arms and hands).

7- Supports healthy cholesterol levels

This is yet another area where turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties shine.

Contrary to the old, debunked hypothesis that saturated fats are the devil, the real force behind atherosclerosis and high cholesterol is inflammation (most times from a diet high in sugar, refined carbs and processed vegetable oils).

Turmeric eases inflammation and in turn can encourage healthy cholesterol levels.

8- Helps with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease

Turmeric is a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective agent, and is said to promote improved cognitive function, potentially helping people with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

9- Aids with your liver’s detox efforts

It’s your liver’s job (with the help of the kidneys) to pull chemicals and toxins out of circulation and put them in your urine and feces to be eliminated.

Unfortunately, when faced with a chemical onslaught day in and day out (especially from processed foods, soda, pesticides, herbicides, toxic cleaning and personal care products and even medications), your poor liver may be waving the white flag of defeat.

But turmeric can help support your liver in efficiently detoxifying your body and fighting off the effects of these chemicals.

  1. Fights H. pylori

The antibacterial properties of turmeric are nothing short of impressive as well, as it has been shown to be effective against gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer, which are all caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria.

  1. Fights most other diseases too!

Most diseases have their roots in inflammation, so instead of waiting for health problems to appear and then merely controlling symptoms with medication, it’s much better to get a handle on inflammation and help prevent sickness and disease from popping up in the first place!

Turmeric’s superstar anti-inflammatory action can help you work toward this important, possibly life-saving goal.

Unleash the power of turmeric!

If you want to unleash the impressive power of turmeric to support your health goals, look no farther than our Optimal Turmeric Blend.

There are many turmeric supplements out there, but they are not all created equal! Experts state that a quality supplement should contain at least 500 milligrams of curcumin per dose and should be fully standardized to 95 percent curcuminoids.

The best supplements should also contain black pepper fruit extract, which helps enhance absorption of the soothing turmeric.

And Optimal Turmeric Blend fits the bill in all cases!

Why not give it a try and see all that it can do for you?

To your health,

Sherry Brescia
