When it comes to cancer, I see a lot of people being misled by cancer research organizations and the mainstream medical community and here’s why.
First of all, let me remind you that since the 1971 “War on Cancer” was introduced by President Nixon, hundreds of billions of dollars have been poured into various initiatives for cancer research to “find the cure”…and although some advances have been made in terms of diagnosis and treatment, cancer still remains our #2 killer.
So we haven’t won the “war” and we’re basically not much better off than we were 50 years ago.
In addition, when the medical community talks about cancer “prevention,” they typically mention things like getting regular pap smears, PSA tests, mammograms, colonoscopies, stool occult blood tests and CA-125 tests, as well as watching for changes in moles and doing breast self exams.
Let me clue you in—NONE of these has anything to do with cancer prevention. They are all merely methods to detect the presence of cancer once it occurs.
Two entirely different things.
Now if you really want to talk PREVENTION, I know the perfect place to start.
Your DIET.
Here’s why I say that.
Many cancer patients have unhealthy diets
A study of over 1,500 cancer patients showed that they were far more likely to have unhealthy diets compared to 3,100 people who had never contracted the disease.
Cancer patients scored only about 47 out of 100 on tests measuring their adherance to US Dietary guidelines, with their consumption of vegetables and whole grains being especially poor.
Plus the cancer patients consumed more added sugar and alcohol and ate less fiber.
Overall, they also failed to consume healthy amounts of vitamin D, vitamin E, potassium and calcium.
I don’t think this is a coincidence because…
Your diet DOES mattter
Contrary to what you may think or have been told, your diet makes a tremendous difference in whether or not you will be facing cancer someday.
Here are some ways your diet can influence your cancer risk:
Sugar
Sugar is a very inflammatory substance, and malignant tumor cells use inflammation as a signal to reproduce. Plus sugar also disrupts your microbiome balance, which in turn can impair your immune functioning, making it less effective at detecting and destroying any cancer cells you may have cruising around.
It’s important to note that this not only includes all forms of sugar but also refined carbohydrates (like bread, pasta, cookies and donuts) which turn to sugar upon digestion.
Salt
Infection with H. pylori (the bacteria that causes ulcers) is associated with an increased risk of stomach cancer, but that risk is multiplied exponentially when people with H. pylori also have a high-salt diet.
And the thing is, H. pylori doesn’t always cause symptoms, so many people that have it don’t even know it.
I’m not just talking about the salt in your kitchen salt shaker here—in many cases, that’s the least of your worries. Instead, salt is hiding in copious amounts in most processed and fast foods.
Acid
Having a diet with a high concentration of acidifying foods is also harmful because cancer needs an acidic environment to survive and thrive.
Number one here is SODA—both diet and regular. If you drink soda on a regular basis, you are rolling out the red carpet for cancer, period.
Other harmful acidifying foods are fast food, all types of packaged, processed foods, baked goods and pastries, and even foods marketed as “healthy” like breakfast cereals and granola bars.
Low fiber
Fiber plays several roles in protecting you against cancer:
- It helps sweep out excess toxins and carcinogens from your GI tract.
- It helps whisk away old worn-out hormones that your body is trying to eliminate (which can increase your risk of hormone-dependent cancers if they are reabsorbed into circulation).
- It helps to move heavy metals out of your body, and many heavy metals are known or suspected carcinogens.
Unfortunately, many people to this day cannot recall the last time they ate a tossed salad, and wouldn’t know a fiber-rich fresh fruit or vegetable if it jumped up and bit them in the derriere.
Nutrient deficiencies
Different nutrients help reduce your risk of cancers in various ways.
Some act as antioxidants that can fight inflammation and disease-causing free radicals in your body, while others support your immune system (which is your first line of defense against cancer), and still other nutrients function as natural anti-inflammatories and antibiotics.
Genetics
Many people with certain gene mutations that increase their risk of cancers cop out by blaming their illness on their poor luck in the gene pool, and eat whatever their heart desires.
Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way.
Not all of your genes are firing off on all cylinders, and some of the harmful ones are only “awakened” if your body isn’t properly nourished.
So alas, your diet plays a significant role here too.
Do your part!
If you want to do all you can to keep cancer out of your life, you MUST acknowledge the fact that your diet is a major factor in determining your fate.
Then take the bull by the horns and do something about it!
Here are some very effective ways you can help:
Eat real food
Have a diet high in healthy, fiber-rich real foods. No more excuses about “not liking vegetables” or “not having the time.” Would you “like” chemotherapy instead, or “have the time” to be dead?

Other suggestions
Drink filtered or distilled water instead of soda or other sweetened drinks, and keep the alcohol consumption moderate.

I feel I need to comment on the previous post. I’m not a doctor either, but learned a lot during my pregnancy about nutrition and how it affects the unborn baby developing inside. The Mother’s nutrition has a definite impact on the development of the fetus. I’ve seen pregnant women eating tons of sugar, soda, and generally have a poor diet, thinking that their one-a-day prenatal vitamin will take care of their nutrition needs. Could some aspect of the mothers nutrition or lack there-of be some factor in why some children develop cancer? It makes sense to me, that what the mother ingests during pregnancy and her overall health at time of pregnancy may have a factor in the baby’s health. I’m sure it’s much more complicated than that. A lot goes on during the baby’s growth in the womb and timing of what the baby is exposed to I’m sure plays a role as well as genetics.
Well meaning article but (and I’m not a doctor) suggesting that by eating a good diet will prevent cancer is disingenuous. I have no doubt that a good diet is important for general good health and in some cases may help prevent some cancers developing, but a good diet alone is not a panacea. Babies and children get cancer even though their bodies have not been subjected to years’ of poor diets. This article needs to be better balanced.
