Should antidepressants be used to PREVENT depression?

I read something disturbing recently that shows just how much the drug industry is attempting to infiltrate our lives and control us with chemicals.

Researchers are investigating whether antidepressants might be useful to prevent depression in otherwise non-depressed people.

Apparently a few studies were conducted which showed reduced incidence of depression when antidepressants were given preventively to stroke, cancer and hepatitis C patients, as compared to those who did not take the drugs.

So now the researchers are suggesting that their findings provide compelling reasons for physicians to consider prescribing antidepressants to prevent depression in people they consider to be “high risk.”

How far will this go?

All I can say is if this becomes a popular protocol, how far will this way of thinking go?

Will people start taking hypertension drugs to prevent high blood pressure?

How about opioid painkillers to prevent back pain?

Or how about metformin to prevent type 2 diabetes?

Where will it end?

And what makes this especially scary is that antidepressants are NOT safe!  They are some of the most dangerous medications on the planet.

Side effects of the King of Antidepressants—Prozac—can include fatigue, liver disease, the development of a tic, hostility, suicidal thoughts, sudden heart stopping, seizures, nightmares and blindness!

Plus low serotonin is not an issue in all cases of depression!  So if someone is depressed but their serotonin level is OK, taking antidepressants is not going to help and may make depression worse by inducing too much serotonin.

In addition, recent studies have shown that antidepressants can deplete your body’s stores of crucial brain nutrients—CoenzymeQ10 (CoQ10), magnesium and vitamins B2, B6, B12 and folate—which can in turn trigger depression.

So they worsen the very thing they are supposed to help!

Real, honest to goodness depression prevention

If you want to prevent depression, or help fight it if it’s affecting you, you need to look at all the possible pieces of the depression puzzle and see which ones might apply to you.

Here are five little-known underlying factors behind depression that I bet you’ve never heard of and ways you can help turn them around:

Depression factor #1: Inflammation

Inflammation is fast emerging as an underlying factor behind depression, and heaven knows we are an inflamed society.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids are Nature’s anti-inflammatory, and they are ESSENTIAL for normal brain functioning…but our typical diets are severely lacking in these crucial fats.  They are found in abundance in oily fish, but that’s not something everyone eats all the time.

That’s why a pharmaceutical grade Omega-3 fish oil formula like VitalMega-3 can make such a difference in your mental and physical health.

VitalMega-3 delivers 1,200 mg of Omega-3s in every daily two-capsule serving, including 600 mg of EPA and 400 mg of DHA—the two fatty acids that are especially important to your brain.

Depression factor #2: Lacking sleep

Regularly lacking sleep has been shown to trigger or worsen depression symptoms, as well as decrease your tolerance to pain.

So if you want any chance of having sound mental (and physical) health, you must get decent sleep on a regular basis.

Aim to get seven to nine hours a night.

Depression factor #3: Vitamin D deficiency

The number of conditions associated with low vitamin D levels continues to grow, and you can add depression on to the list.  Studies have shown that people with low vitamin D levels are more prone to depression.

Unfortunately, vitamin D is a common deficiency (especially this time of year in the northern hemisphere) and food sources are limited.

So the best way to ensure you have enough of this vital nutrient is to supplement with a top-quality product like Optimum DK Formula with FruiteX-B

Optimum DK Formula provides a healthful, therapeutic dose of 5,000 IUs of vitamin D3, plus vitamin K and the mineral boron which help to support strong bone, immune and cardiovascular health too!

Depression factor #4: A nutrient-poor, processed food diet

Your diet directly impacts your state of mind, and by having diet of nutrient-poor, highly processed foods and refined carbs, you are putting out the welcome mat for depression in several ways.

First, eating lots of refined carbs leads to excessive insulin release, which can result in falling blood sugar levels.  Eventually this can trigger agitation, depression, anger, anxiety and panic attacks.

Plus sugar is an inflammatory substance, and inflammation is a depression factor.

And lacking B vitamins can lead to a whole series of disturbing symptoms including:

  • Feeling unreal or disconnected
  • Hearing your own thoughts
  • Anxiety and inner tension
  • Suspicious of people
  • Inability to think straight
  • Frequent mood swings
  • Having delusions or illusions

When it comes to your diet, keep it real.  Fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, fish, eggs and healthy fats like real butter and olive oil will help give your body the crucial nutrients it needs, without subjecting it to floods of refined carbs and sugars.

Depression factor #5: Gut flora imbalances

You may not realize this, but your gut produces 90 percent of the serotonin in your body…so if it’s unhealthy and not able to do its job, that can definitely impact your mood.

Many Americans have diets that are high in refined carbs, plus we take antibiotics and acid reducers by the truckload—and ALL of these can seriously impair your gut microbiome.

When it comes to encouraging a healthy gut flora balance, probiotic supplementation is your ticket to making sure that your population of friendly microbes is where it needs to be.

And Super Shield multi-strain probiotic formula is just the supplement that’s up to this important challenge!

Super Shield’s full-spectrum blend of 13 strains of potent bacteria help to repopulate your supply of friendly bacteria, encourage better digestion, boost your immune system functioning…

And help support a healthy gut environment that makes serotonin like it’s supposed to!

Do what you can to help keep depression out of your life naturally—you’ll be so happy you did!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia
