I’ve been long beating the drum about the fact that the benefits of statin treatment have been grossly exaggerated, while the harmful side effects have been severely downplayed and brushed under the rug.
Well, now increasing numbers of studies are finally proving it.
For example, a group of international researchers published a study in the BMJ Open journal that found NO LINK between "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and death as a result of heart disease in individuals over 60 years of age.
As a matter of fact, the results showed that 92 percent of the people with higher cholesterol actually lived longer!
In addition, current estimates show that statins benefit merely 1 percent of the population. In other words, out of 100 people taking statins, one person will have one less heart attack.
Yet that’s justification for 25 percent (one out of four) of us being told to take statins?
All I can say is it’s raining money somewhere…and a lot of people are being harmed in the meantime.
Fact check: Cholesterol is not the guilty party in heart disease!
Cholesterol is not the demon it has been made out to be by drug companies that want to frighten people into taking statins!
On the contrary, cholesterol is a substance your body NEEDS.
It functions as an antioxidant, protects you against cancer, it repairs wounds and tears in your arteries, it’s vital for your brain and nervous system, it’s needed for your body to make hormones and vitamin D, and it helps your body use serotonin, which protects against depression.
The real instigator behind heart disease is inflammation in your arteries, and that is very commonly the result of these four things:
- Too much glucose coursing through your blood (because of a diet high in sugar and refined carbs)
- A buildup of homocysteine in your bloodstream (due to lacking B vitamins)
- Lacking the natural anti-inflammatory omega-3 essential fatty acids your body needs to control inflammation
- High blood pressure (which is commonly the result of diet and lacking exercise)
Once inflammation occurs in your arteries then yes, cholesterol is summoned to the scene to do its repair work and may become part of a clog—but it’s certainly NOT the guilty party here.
They NOT safe!
Although statins are ridiculously touted as “safe” nothing could be farther from the truth.
Statins can and do cause many serious side effects including muscle pain and weakness, incapacitation, kidney failure, death, type 2 diabetes, memory loss, depression, pancreatic inflammation, sexual dysfunction, gallstones, poor digestion, low energy and abnormal heart rhythm, to name a few.
They also increase your breast cancer risk. Research has shown that long-term statin use more than doubles women's risk of two major types of breast cancer--invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive lobular carcinoma.
They deplete your body of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), which actually increases your risk of heart disease. How’s that for a kicker?
They also inhibit the synthesis of vitamin K2 in your body. Vitamin K2 protects your arteries from calcification and without it, plaque levels worsen. So yet another way statins increase your heart disease risk!
Sorry, but none of this sounds very “safe” to me.
A smarter, safer approach
A smarter, safer approach here is to naturally support your body in its efforts to control inflammation and maintain a healthy cholesterol level!
Here are five ways you can help:
Start with your diet
Eat wholesome REAL foods and ditch the refined carbs and sodas.
And don’t buy into the “all saturated fat is bad” BS either—that was created by vegetable oil companies who make a lot of money selling you their rancid creations and margarines.
Your body needs saturated fats, so go ahead and have a 3-4 oz. serving of meat (preferably organic) or real butter on your vegetables.
Make sure you have healthy levels of Omega-3 essential fatty acids
You can help increase your body’s levels of these crucial fats by incorporating more oily fish into your diet (choose wild caught and never farmed fish) and supplement with a fish oil formula like VitalMega-3.
VitalMega-3 provides an inflammation-soothing 1,200 mg. of Omega-3 fats in every daily 2-capsule dose.
Mountains of studies prove fish oil’s ability to help lower cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as lowering blood pressure and supporting brain and nervous system health too!
Get regular exercise
Nothing is more effective to help control your blood pressure and your weight than working up a sweat at least 3-4 times a week.
Just be sure to get your doctor’s OK—trust me, he or she will be thrilled!
Supplement with probiotics
Your liver naturally controls your cholesterol level by eliminating old, worn-out cholesterol through the intestinal tract, but in order for it to effectively do so, a healthy intestinal environment and regular bowel movements are a must.
Supplementing with a full-spectrum probiotic formula like Super Shield can help support your body’s efforts by encouraging healthy, regular BMs and repopulating your supply of helpful intestinal bacteria.
In addition to helping with cholesterol elimination, probiotics also help control cholesterol levels in these 3 ways:
- 1. They create acids that counter cholesterol production (a natural, safe version of what statins are supposed to do!)
- 2. They break down bile acids so your liver has to use up excess cholesterol to make more
- 3. They "eat up" cholesterol too!
Make sure you have enough vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is crucial to help your body convert homocysteine to a benign amino acid. If too much homocysteine is allowed to build in your blood, that raises your heart disease risk.
Unfortunately, B12 is a common deficiency, especially in the elderly and people who use acid reducers.
To ensure your body h as health-supporting levels of this vital nutrient, Hydroxaden 2.5 is the perfect solution.
Hydroxaden 2.5 is an oral B12 spray that you spritz under your tongue, so the crucial B12 can be absorbed right through the mucus membranes in your mouth.
In addition to helping lower your risk of heart disease, vitamin B12 also helps support strong energy levels and sharp mental functioning too!
If you want to do all you can to have healthy cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of heart disease, the answer lies not in a prescription bottle.
Help your body function the way it’s supposed to and I’m sure it will thank you in countless ways!
To your health,
Sherry Brescia
Thanks Sherry but you are so right. I was on a statin and got to the point I could not walk anymore. My thigh muscles were just too weak. So I went off them and am still paying the price as my thigh muscles still ache and disrupt my sleep. I have many problems from statins.
I don’t want to contradict you but my GP says that indeed they do work, and I would rather have his word than yours.
Hello Carol,
Thank you for reaching out! We are sorry to hear of the experience you had. Sadly, that kind of encounter happens all too often. We applaud your determination and for trying to improve your health as holistically as possible!
Recently I had my yearly physical. When the doctor (nurse practitioner) saw my cholesterol numbers, she insisted I start taking statins. When I refused, she got really nasty. She finally agreed to a dietitian which I haven’t seen yet because I can look all this up on-line. I did not like the way she treated me at all!!
