Want to live a long life? Make sure you do this

I think it’s safe to say that most of us don’t want to be pushing up daisies any time soon.

On the contrary—what many people say when asked what’s most important to them is good health and a long life!

Well, that’s certainly what our bodies were designed to achieve—but many factors can undermine your body’s innate ability to be healthy, and instead lead to sickness, disease and dying way before your time.

But the good news is when you support your body’s efforts, you dramatically improve your chances of living ALL of your days free of pain and disease well into the golden years!

And one of the most important things you can do is…

Get enough of the “longevity nutrients”!

While ALL nutrients play an important role in your body, recent research conducted by Dr. Bruce Ames of the Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute in Oakland, CA and published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has shown that there are actually two distinct kinds of nutrients—survival nutrients and longevity nutrients.

Survival nutrients, as their name implies, support your body’s basic processes of survival and reproduction.

On the other hand, longevity nutrients are the nutrients which are aimed at encouraging the body’s efforts to remain healthy and free of disease, and live for an extended period of time!

The key superstars

Although the researchers identified 30 nutrients that help sustain longevity, the key superstars are: Vitamin K, Vitamin D, Omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, and selenium.

The researchers stated that these nutrients play many essential roles in the body, including repairing DNA, maintaining cardiovascular health, supporting the immune system and preventing cellular damage due to oxidative stress.

Dr. Ames explained, "The prevention of the degenerative diseases of aging is a different science than curing disease: it will involve expertise in metabolism, nutrition and biochemistry…"

Amen!  Finally someone who wants to focus on true prevention and not just disease management.

Other helpful compounds

In addition to the longevity nutrients, Dr. Ames and his crew identified other helpful compounds and phytonutrients that although not currently considered as "vitamins," they fit in with the concept of "longevity vitamins" as described in their review.

These include lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene.

Is your body getting enough?

Now the next logical question is: Are you getting enough of these longevity nutrients?

Well, chances are good that you may be lacking.

First of all, deficiencies in both Vitamin D and Omega-3 are rampant in our society.  Many of us are lacking Vitamin D due limited time in the sun and sunscreen use.

And our diets don’t provide the Omega-3 essential fatty acids that they used to!  The animals raised for our consumption used to be pasture fed, which provided a rich source of Omega-3 fats, and we would in turn get those fats when we ate the meat, milk and eggs from the animals.

Now these animals are fed a grain-based diet (many times GMO grains to boot) which not only DON’T provide Omega-3 fats, but also instead load our bodies with inflammatory Omega-6 fats!

Also working against us is the fact that our food is simply not as nutritious as it used to be due to bio-engineering of crops and poor soil quality.

Cover your bases!

To ensure that your body has what it needs not just for today but for the “long haul,” supplementation is the best way to ensure you have all bases covered!

Our very own outstanding Super Core multi-vitamin and mineral formula provides healthful, therapeutic doses of Vitamin D, Vitamin K, magnesium and selenium.

Plus it also includes the helpful compounds lutein, zeaxanthin and lycopene identified by the researchers!

And when it comes to Omega-3 essential fatty acids, VitalMega-3 is the way to go!

Every daily 2-capsule dose provides a whopping 1,200 mg of pure, molecularly distilled, inflammation-fighting Omega-3 EFAs, including the crucial EPA and DHA that your brain and nervous system must have.

Whoa, Nelly!

Now, just because you can easily supplement and load up your body with longevity vitamins, that is not a green light to eat garbage!

No supplements in the WORLD cannot undo the harmful effects of a poor diet.  Having a nutrient-poor diet of processed food, fast food and refined carbs and sugars does irreparable damage to your body’s cells, tissues and organs.

To the point where it’s not “if” but merely “when” will you get sick.

Do your precious body a favor.  Feed it what it needs to survive and thrive—fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, poultry and eggs (preferably organic), wild-caught fish, healthy fats like real butter, olive oil and coconut oil, nuts and seeds.

Now you’re on a REAL path to a long, healthy, disease-free life!

I can’t think of anything more important!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia

  • Hello George!

We appreciate your comment and are thrilled that you’ve been following GTNP most of the time for years and have used our supplements!

With regards to osteoarthritis, you may find it helpful to avoid animal products as much as possible (particularly meat & dairy). Uric acid is found in high protein foods and they can contribute to inflammation. If you cut down on or eliminate these foods, you could reduce your pain. Try it for a few weeks and see what happens!
We also recommend looking into a fish oil supplement. It can help with arthritis as well as also help prevent heart disease, enhance brain function, and help prevent depression and helps eyesight, among other things. We do offer an omega-3 fish oil supplement on our site, called VitalMega-3.

We hope this helps! Have a wonderful day!

  • I am a 49 year old male of African decent. I live with Osteoarthritis which I have managed very well for the past 10 years. Lately I’ve been experiencing lower back pain which I heard my Osteoarthritis is a precursor to this. I eat well because I try to follow your ‘Great Taste No Pain’ diet ( not all the time though). I believe in the concept of disease prevention and longevity instead of disease cure. Which one of your supplements will you recommend? I must add that I have purchased some of your supplements and diet book a few years back to manage my acid reflux challenges and they really helped me.

  • Hello Beverly!

Thank you for reaching out to us! We are happy to provide information for your consideration, but cannot advise that you go against the advice of your doctor. They are more aware of your medical history and any medications you could be taking.

That being said, we do include 50 mcg of Vitamin K2 in our Optimum DK supplement. As this is a therapeutic level supplement, many clients who take it are dealing with osteopenia or osteoporosis. For those who are looking for standard support in a multivitamin, you may see a lower amount of K2. For Vitamin D3, we also include 5000 IU in our Optimum DK supplement. For the same reasons stated above, a therapeutic level supplement is often taken by those with a greater need than the average person. We include 400mg of calcium in our Super Core multivitamin.

We hope this is helpful and that you’ll let us know if you have any concerns or feedback.

  • Have been taking K2 (50mcg) and D3 (5000iu) along with Calcium (600mg) daily. My GP (and other professionals) insist I’m taking too much D3 and schedulelab work periodically to monitor intake. What do you feel is an appropriate dosage for me (age 74) of the above three suoplements. Anxious to hear your response. Thank you so much.
